“We had been racing karts for just on three years and made the decision to move to open-wheelers for the long-term. We contacted Tim Macrow Racing about running in the Australian F3 Championship and it didn’t take us very long to work out we wanted to work with Tim.
Tim Macrow is such an experienced and successful race car driver and his credentials are second to none. To have Tim develop and run the program for Ben has been amazing. Starting in the simulator, Tim was able to assess Ben’s initial capabilities before organising a test day in Tim’s Formula BMW. Tim provided a lot of one-on-one information about the race car and clear targets of what we would like to achieve on the day and his team looked after everything, which allowed Ben to focus on driving without any other stresses. After a few other test days, again with clear targets and direction, Ben was ready to make his debut in F3 at Sydney Motorsport Park in March 2021.
We arrived and everything was ready and presented so professionally. Tim was with Ben the whole time, assisting him with what to do, how to plan, and what to concentrate on with each session. As did Ben’s engineer Terry Stott which was amazing support for a 17-year-old kid who had never ever seen this race track before.
It turned out a very successful weekend with Ben getting pole position, winning the feature race and the round outright. This is a testament to Tim, Terry and the team on how they can take a young person from karting and progress them through to being a front-runner in one of Australia’s fastest racing cars.
The welcoming and honest nature of Tim and the team make them very easy and rewarding to work with and this works with young kids.
Ben and I thank Tim and the team for providing this amazing experience. We would have no hesitation in recommending Tim Macrow Racing as the best path from karting to cars for anyone young aspiring racing driver.
